Sextant Navigation

Tammy & I attended the education class at Bay Yacht Club, taught by Rick Bell, on using a sextant.  We have a Davis plastic model, 1925 Plath brass version, and each iPad/iPhones have Astranav on them.  We've calibrated all the sextants.  We took readings 3 days in row and believe we are finding our latitude within a few degrees, so we shouldn't get lost too bad, using this and our new compass.  But of course I'm using the GPS just in case.

  1. Very Cool! Glad to see you both are finding and learning all of these ways to not get lost out there!

  2. It's a plus not getting lost...but we do have a compass to take up a heading and go...after reading some books of sailors who have been out there...sometimes electronics and water doesn't mix(see below link)...so making sure we have Christopher Columbus knowledge. Plus it's fun getting out everyday and taking our readings together and figuring out if we are still at the dock in Corpus Christi...See voyage from Kemah to Corpus Christi... http://svlivingandlovinglife.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
